The Marr family, part of the Gordon Clan, is from Scotland. In fact, at least some of us are of royal blood, with Isabella Mar (1278 - 1297) spending a moment as the Queen of Scotland, wife to Robert the Bruce. Unfortunately, there's a huge gap in time between the 13th century, and where we begin with our verifiable family history. Hopefully, one day we'll be able to trace our branch back to Isabella and uncle Robert. Unlike many of the Marr family who remained in Aberdeenshire, our group ended up in Glasgow, and the surrounding counties. Although it's almost certain that most, if not all of those having the Marr name came from Mar, in the north east of Scotland, we have yet to be successful in establishing that line. Jumping way forward, we know that between 1923 and 1925, my father and his brother, both toddlers, and their parents, Alexander Brown Marr and Agnes Jane Main Ferguson, came to the states and settled in Rhode Island. They left behind many living relatives, although we know none of them, yet. Any clues would be deeply appreciated. Other prominent names in the family include Spink, Viens and Jacob. We are direct descendants of Robert Spink who came to America from London in 1635 on the ship Speedwell . He was one of the early founders of Rhode Island, settling in what is today called North Kingstown. Some of the huge Spink family is found here in our database. This includes information about Charles Wallace Spink who served, and died on the USS Norman Scott (DD690) in WWII. The Viens and Jacobs remain somewhat of a mystery. They immigrated to Rhode Island from Quebec around the end of the 19th century, but there's not much information beyond that.
I hope you will benefit from the information presented here, and if you have
something to add, I won't turn any new data away. :-)
